perhaps the bum in the air allows them to breathe normally whereas being flat on the tummy would impede air flow. Who knows why but I can't think of a kid who hasn't slept like this, including our little Emmett!

If you can't tell, she's on her face with her little bum in the air. Can you imagine an adult sleeping like this? Hehe, that would be quite the sight!
